Equestrian Areas · Secondary market
Gainesville horse properties and country estates.
Gainesville offers rolling farmland and country estates with the amenities of a university town close by, anchored for horse owners by the University of Florida's Large Animal Hospital, the only equine hospital in Florida within a college of veterinary medicine. Horse properties ring the city, from equestrian-friendly neighborhoods inside Gainesville to the farming towns of Newberry, Alachua, and Micanopy, and San Felasco Hammock Preserve keeps designated equestrian trails a short drive northwest. It is a primary market in our practice, alongside Ocala and Saint Augustine, and a practical choice for buyers who want a horse property without giving up healthcare, schools, and culture.
Why Gainesville
Farmland with everyday convenience.
Gainesville blends a rural character with the resources of a university town. It is a practical choice for buyers who want a horse property and still value proximity to healthcare, schools, and amenities. The city's own equestrian-friendly neighborhoods and the farming towns around it offer a quieter, more private equestrian scene than Ocala's.

Equestrian resources
What Gainesville offers the horse buyer.
UF Large Animal Hospital
The University of Florida Large Animal Hospital at 2147 Shealy Dr is the only equine veterinary hospital in Florida located within a college of veterinary medicine. It operates 24/7 for emergencies and offers surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and the only specialized equine neonatal intensive care unit in the state. For owners who ride and compete, that depth of specialist care close to home is a genuine advantage.
Agriculture and Equestrian Center
The Alachua County Agriculture and Equestrian Center at 23100 W Newberry Rd in Newberry, also known as Canterbury Equestrian Showplace, is the area's full-service equestrian event venue, with a covered arena, two outdoor arenas, show barns with about 200 stalls, and a regular calendar of horse shows. It gives Gainesville-area riders a real competition venue without driving to Ocala.
Trail riding at San Felasco
San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, about 15 miles northwest of Gainesville, keeps designated equestrian trails, including the 3.6-mile Cellon Creek Trail and the 4.4-mile Turkey Creek Loop, with a dedicated horse trailhead off US 441 in Alachua. Riders are asked to carry proof of a current negative Coggins test. For a buyer weighing daily riding options, a short drive to public trails is a practical asset.
